Gold Eagles $50, Circulation Strikes (1986-present)

The American Gold Eagle series began in 1986 and features the timeless design of Augustus Saint-Gaudens on the obverse, with a reverse design by Miley Busiek. Struck in four denominations in 22 karat (.917 pure) gold, they remain one of the world's most popular bullion issues. The full one ounce coin bears a face value of $50, and is by far the most popular denomination of the four. Because mintages are high, there are almost no better dates, although the West Point pieces do bring a premium. Like the smaller denominations, MS-70 populations for the late 1980s to the early 1990s dates are limited, so prices reflect that fact.
