1793 Mint Set

Only two copper denominations were struck this year; the Half Cent and the Cent. However, three distinct types of cents were made; the Chain (March), the Wreath (April-July) and finally the Liberty Cap (Sept-Dec). Of the three, the Liberty Cap is the scarcest, and Mint State pieces are virtually unknown. The Chain Cent of course, is considered to be the first "Regular Mint Issue" and enjoys strong demand. Delightfully primitive, they seldom fail to elicit attention, even in low grade. The Wreath Cent is the most common of the three, and even though an estimated 2,500 have survived, they still command a low five-figure price in nice VF grades. The Half Cent is a one year type and is also in strong demand, particularly with an attractive color and good planchet.
