The 1931 Proof Farthing (KM12.3), or 1/4 Penny (4D), has a total mintage of 62 coins. Obverse of Coin: George V facing left with the words "GEORGIVS V REX IMPERATOR" around the upper edge of the coin. Portrait by Bertram Mackennal. Reverse of Coin: The legend "Suid Afrika" only appear on the proof version of the coin. Business strikes still contain the Dutch legend "Zuid Afrika". The proof version's denomination, "1/4D", is also unique as the business strikes of the coin were minted with a "1/4 Penny" legend. Reverse designed and engraved by Kruger Gray This is a superb piece with essentially flawless surfaces and a rich mahogany-brown color.
