Branch Mint Gold Dollars
描述:
Branch mint gold dollars as the name suggests are gold dollars minted at Charlotte, Dahlonega, New Orleans, and San Francisco branch mints. The reverse of these coins carry a "C", "D", "O", or "S" mint marks respectively. With the exception of a few of the New Orleans issues all are scarce to rare pieces in any grade. Gold dollars were minted in three different designs, Type I (1849-1854), the Liberty Coronet, Type II (1854-1856), Small Indian Head, and Type III (1856-1870), Large Indian Head. No branch mint coins were made after 1870 San Francisco issue. At 13mm the type I dollars are the smallest U. S. coin minted and are 1/20th the weight of a $20 double eagle.
