In 1998, Russel Logan and John McCloskey published "Federal Half Dimes 1792-1837", a wonderful book that listed all the known die varieties in the early Half Dime series. This work not only reflected the existing interest in these diminuitive coins, but it also sparked an expansion of the number of collectors who appreciate the many interesting varieties found in this series. Rarities include the 1792 Half Disme and the 1802 Half Dime, plus many individual varieties that are known by only a few examples. Interesting, eye-catching varieties include the 1796 LIKERTY (broken B in LIBERTY), the 1796/5 overdate, and the 1800 LIKERTY (broken R in LIBERTY). A complete set of early Half Dimes is very difficult to complete, giving the advanced collector a challenge that will last for many gratifying years.
Notes: This set is a work in progress. As new varieties are graded, they may be added to the set.
