George II Halfcrown, 1741 over 39 DECIMO QVARTO, young laureate, draped and cuirassed bust left, rev. crowned shields cruciform, seven strings to harp, 15.07g, 7h (Bull 1682; ESC 601A; Adams 545; Spink 3693), a truly sublime example with only the faintest trace of die wear to highest points and a small die break through O of GEORGIVS, otherwise delightfully toned and handsomely balanced, lustrous and much as struck, rare thus. Purchased Spink 21006, July 7, 2021, Lot 346. Ex. Roderick Richardson - Choice BU (£5750). Conservatively graded MS 62 by PCGS.
Halfcrown, 1745 DECIMO NONO, old head, reads GEORGIUS, LIMA below, rev. nine strings to harp, angles plain, lettered edge, 15.06g, 6h (Pywell-Phillips 325 [albeit 8 strings]; ESC 1687 [605]; S.3695), delightful cabinet tone, lustrous in recesses, extremely fine.
