The largest gold coin produced by the German States between 1871 and 1915 was the 20 Mark. Roughly the size of a British Sovereign, the 20 Mark was the flagship of German coinage, and represented the German nation in international trade. However, the 20 Mark was not produced in as many years as the 10 mark, so this set is approximately 50 coins smaller than the latter. This does not make it any easier to collect, as there are a number of important rarities contained herein: the Hamburg 1908-J 20 Mark, the 1872-E Saxe-Coburg-Gotha 1872-E 20 Mark, and the Wurttemberg 1913-F 20 Mark. As impossible to complete as this set might be for the average collector, there are plenty of coins that are accessible and affordable. For a viable alternative, try the 20 Mark type set.
