The Louis Eliasberg collection of $20 St. Gaudens was spectacular in terms of both quality and completeness. Eliasberg had every issue including all of the rare late dates. His Wire Edge High Relief was so nice that when Bowers and Ruddy auctioned the coins in 1982 the High Relief was described as a "Gem Proof 67." The quality of many of the other rarities was equally impressive.

Highlights of the Eliasberg set include a MS67 1908-S, an incredible MS65 1920-S, and the ultra rare 1927-D in Gem MS65 condition. The 1927-D sold for a then very healthy price of $176,000 at the 1982 Eliasberg auction.
Louis Eliasberg had a spectacular 1907 Extremely High Relief $20 which was MS67 quality. The coin was purchased at the Eliasberg sale for $242,000 by coin connoisseur extraordinaire Harry Bass. Eliasberg also owned a 1933 $20 St. Gaudens. He purchased the coin in 1944 and turned it in to the government in 1952. So this set is the Eliasberg $20 St. Gaudens collection as it was from 1944 to 1952.
