关于此套币: My introduction to coin collecting began, when at age 12, I was given a penny board produced in 1938 by Joseph Oberwise of Los Angeles. It had spaces for the first 99 Lincoln cents and could be redeemed for $3 when filled. From that day on, I pestered my relatives, wanting to look through their change. My Grandfather carried an old leather coin purse and each time I saw him he would let me search his coin purse for those dates I was missing. One day when I opened his coin purse I found six golden quarter eagles carefully wrapped in tissue paper. Long ago he had removed these coins from circulation. Two coins were dated 1873 and 1873-S, which was his birth year. He gave me these coins provided that some day I would pass them on to my oldest grandson. I loved these small golden treasures and decided that my oldest grandson would not only get these coins, but also a set of all 1873 dated gold coins. Locating an 1873 $3 gold coin proved to be quite challenging and after several years of examining three dollar gold coin offerings, I decided to try and assemble as many dates of these coins as I could afford in AU condition. The Whidbey Island Collection is an ongoing effort toward this goal and will someday be passed on to Bryan, my oldest grandson.
