This coin is the PCGS Coinfacts feature coin for the 1846 N-1 BN. Numerically there is 1 finer..MS 65 RB..the Naftzger coin. PCGS has 2 MS64RB. NGC has 4 MS64BN. I give this coin CC4 for the variety. This coin is a wonder in hand! The colors glow and the strike is exceptional. I will be hard pressed to find a coin with more eye appeal.

N-38 R1 PCGS graded MS63 Brown, CAC Approved.Frosty light olive and steel. The surfaces are lustrous and this cent has excellent eye appeal. A small spot of reddish chocolate brown toning left of star 6, another in the dentils over the left side of star 8, and a less-visible one resting on the L in LIBERTY are the best identifying marks. MDS, die state c early (Newcomb's old #16 early). Die clashmarks show at the throat and chin as well as at the base of the neck, and a few remnants of the die lines at the inner curl remain visible. The dull waves sometimes found on the reverse at D and STAT are not present and the reverse is uncracked. N-1, R.3. Sharply struck on Liberty, but most of the stars are flat at the centers, similar on the reverse with the wreath sharp and the peripheral lettering somewhat challenged. Medium brown dominates with traces of lighter red in the fields and gunmetal blue hints as well. On the reverse there are some lighter reddish areas around the periphery. Excellent surfaces as expected for a Gem grade. Pedigree- 1/2006 Heritage Orlando Auction (FUN #1) Lot 659 price realized $690.

Housed in an old Series holder this coin still has plenty of mellowed red. Displays nice cartwheel luster on both side and is virtually mark free. A tiny mark on the underside of the chin keeps it from a higher grade. Most likely N-14 given the strike characteristics but is not attributed on the holder. A fine addition to the collection.
