1909 VDB 1C MS66BN PCGS #2423

Ron Bozarth Numismatics. Toned coins have gained in popularity. Whenever something becomes desired, the market will respond...but you have to be careful. Not every toned example is appealing. Lucky for me this VDB is not only colorfully toned, it has a nice mix of darker hues that compliment each other. 9/17 WXZ

Angel Dee's. So much of my collecting has been informed through the relationship that grew with Andy and Alynne from Angel Dee's. Through Andy's ready help, vision and perseverance, this coin received a deserved upgrade. In hand and in person, this example has the type of special appeal that jumps out at you without question. I feel lucky to have this one and to have had Andy's help was the best part. 5/16 WEZ

1909 1C Lincoln MS66RD PCGS #2431

Great Collections - These were minted in greater numbers than the VDB, 72 to 27 million according to the mint, yet this 1909 'plain' is the harder one to find. Population numbers bare this out and the troubles I encountered trying to find a pleasing example were more than enough proof that this is true, After buying and then selling in three previous transactions I can recall (and there may even be more), I finally found this one in a Great Collections Sunday night auction. I found this example to be more than acceptable and I'm really quite happy with finally finding one this nice. WUV 12/17

1909-S/S 1C S/Horizontal S MS64RB PCGS #92433

Ron Bozarth Numismatics - This was one of my first buys of the tougher coins in the series. While I've replaced almost 75% trying to improve the set, this one has remained. An attractive 09-S is one of the bigger challenges of the Wheat Lincolns. 5/16 VIG

Angel Dee's - There are lines of contrasting color showing through the blue. I'm told these parallel lines are a sign of Natural Toning. A valuable piece of into to know. 7/17 NWZ. The last 2 images are a 1910 66RB* NGC, the only 'star' coin (NGC eye appeal designation) in the collection. From the "Srotag" collection - a good friend of mine. 3/20 WSN

Angel Dee's - This coin exhibits some pleasing color shifts when you rotate it in the light. If a coin has strong healthy luster, it can be full red or even very dark hued and show strong appeal. These are the coins I naturally gravitate to. 6/17 NEZ

Angel Dee's - Nice colors on this rather flashy 11-D. One of the treasures from Andy Skrabalak. This was my first TrueView coin and because I was such a rookie at that time, I thought that because it was pictured in CoinFacts, it was somehow a really big deal. Now I know you just need to pay a few extra $$ to get your coin up in lights. 7/16 VSV

NFC - Another early purchase. I was trying to get all the hard coins first before my money ran out! Well struck although there are some little spots. Angel Dee's. There are fewer top population browns than reds or red-browns yet values don't show this. I'm hopeful colorful brown coins with luster will eventually get their acknowledgment in price guides. Considering their rarity and beauty, it seems past time for the major grading services get up to speed on this. 8/18 NEZ

Coinslabz - Adam is a nice person with a good selection of coins. Many are impressively toned but this is a more subtly colored. An established difficult key to the series, these can require a significant outlay of money. This example is well struck and that weighed into my decision. Similar to some early date Lincolns, it shows a pair of light tiger stripes. 5/18 SGV

1916 1C MS65BN PCGS #2486

Angel Dee's - 1916 featured a reworked portrait that shows the best detail of any Lincoln Wheatback cent. Lincoln's hair and beard can show exquisite detail if the coin is well struck and still in mint state. This one seems to show this very well - "hammered strike" is one way to describe it. The rich blue color with some subtle green highlights is a nice bonus. 10/19 VXX

1916-D 1C MS66BN PCGS #2489

Angel Dee's - There are currently only three 1916-D Lincolns that are graded 66 or higher in brown and Andy at Angel Dee's is the man behind all three! Yes, he is that good at spotting potential top population coins. Of those three, two are 66 and one is a 67. So that puts this as a pop 2/1 which is very nice. I love the luster and the colors leaping off of this coin. Lincoln's hair is so perfectly etched into the metal and every other detail is strong too. I wouldn't have been able to buy this coin outright so Andy arranged a deal that allowed me to trade two duplicate dates I was trying to sell. Thank you Andy! 11/18 WVZ

Srotag - The very day before CoinFacts went on hiatus in early 2019, I stumbled across this awesome coin pictured there . Using the Certification lookup, I found the owner's registry set & luckily, he had email enabled. Knowing it was a long shot, I asked if he 'd consider selling. Turns out if he could find a RD or RB, he'd sell this one. After a major show (FUN) and a high level auction (Heritage) he won a very nice 65RB. Finally after a few months we made the deal. Attractive examples of this date are rare. How rare? Through the hunt for one I was happy with, there were at least FIVE before this. 2/19 GPQ

Coast to Coast Coins. This has that unusual pinkish hue often seen with the 20-D. This was pointed out in David Lange's great and timeless book on Lincoln Cents. He wrote that, I thought it sounded unusual...I bought this coin and there it was! Pinkish. What a thing! #2 Mountain Man Values CA - This 65BN NGC is the better coin in my opinion. Angel Dee's. In hand, this shows fine speckles of color that flash in the light. I'm thinking this could upgrade to 65BN but as they say, ownership adds a full grade to an owner's opinion of his coin. This date is very challenging to find with luster and it is almost impossible to find any with natural red luster. Last I looked, the population of 65RD was lowest with this date than all the rest save for the 26-S. 7/16 UWV

Steven Cohen through Andy at Angel Dee's. The 22-D is a favorite of collectors for some reason. Maybe it is the 22 'no D' that drives up the popularity but whatever the reason, these have always kept a solid value. This one is well struck with better than average luster. It holds a special honor being from Steve Cohen. He was one of the nicer people in coins and it is sad that he is gone but he left the world better wherever and whenever he touched it. Angel Dee's. Andy sent me this along with the 14-D. That was a very good day for a coin collector to say the least. I'm still happy and that was over 2 years ago! Has nice color that doesn't adequately show in these images from my phone. 7/16 NZZ

Angel Dee's. Another of those brutal "S" coins from the teens and twenties. The mint over used the die pairs in these years so you will rarely see well defined details, also the soft appearance of Lincoln's portrait is typical even in the highest grades. The strong reverse on this coin is a real plus for this date. This example shows some subtle color which was difficult to image but after trial and error, I was finally able to show it in these most recent pictures. A very tough date! 10/17 SWV

Col Cal - A solid red coin. I began buying red coins for the P mints in the nineteen twenties mostly because I could afford them. I could very conceivably replace this with a toned coin should a nice enough one become available. 12/16 NWV

Tommy Mundy a.k.a. EWizard. This coin turned out to be a nice surprise. If you are attempting to put together a set of high grade Lincoln cents, this is one of the tougher coins. The main problem is that 1925 was a terrible year for both branch mints. David Lange in his wonderful book on Lincoln cents calls it the low point for quality of strike. This example has good details. 11/16 EII

Angel Dee's. Rare with color as seen here and I feel very fortunate to own such a pretty coin from this difficult and brutal date . Seems to me to be pushing towards 66BN. Perhaps it should settle as a 65+ but you don't often see coins achieve a 65+ grade in brown. 8/17 IXZ

Angel Dee's - This was a 2/0 population coin at purchase. Winged Liberty had the other one. Pop counts in Brown have been growing recently so rarity on that account can be fleeting. Luckily, this has more than population rarity going for it as you can see in Robecs Image. The color is very strong and quite nice. This is one of my favorite coins in the collection. 8/17 UVZ

Rev Tye - A nice seller I've done buying and selling with. This was total luck because I had no idea how pretty this was. Tye's picture was nice but it didn't really reveal the wonderful blend of blue and deep red. When I opened the package to reveal my new purchase, my eyes got as big as these images. That has to be one of the best moments for collectors, when you are very pleasantly surprised with a coin that far exceeds your expectations. 9/17 NSS

Angel Dee's - This is a pretty coin in hand. Andy understates his pictures so this could be made to look better with a new image. This looks like it could merit a 65 grade but the price difference is negligible, so it probably isn't worth the effort. 2/18 WVZ

Allan Nowakowski a.k.a. Dr. No - This is a very pretty coin and should probably be graded full red. This was one of the earlier acquisitions in the set and for a time, was my most prized coin. Since that time, I've added several that surpassed this one in appeal and color but I'll always have a special attachment to this coin and will very probably never consider replacing it. We found out recently that Allan passed, a loss for his family and anyone who knew him. He shared a lot of valuable coin knowledge and I'll always treasure knowing him. 7/16 NNZ
