The Basic Roosevelt Dime Proof Set at present consists of about 90 coins, the vast majority of which are quite modern, as two coins from each year after 1992 are required: a clad and a silver example. Due to their limited mintages, the early years (pre-1954) are scarcer. After that period, mintages rose quickly, and none of the other coins should present any difficulty acquiring an example. However, the competition in the set registry is for the top grade coins, so even though a PR-65 or 66 may be a fairly easy find, that early date in PR-68 DC or 69 DC will take some searching and some money. If one includes the Major Varieties, the set takes on an entirely new complexion. It seems every few years, the San Francisco Mint forgot the "S" on its Proof coins. In 1968, 1970, 1975 and 1983, "No S" varieties are known. While the 1970 and 1983 "No S" coins are available, the 1968 "No S" is quite scarce and the 1975 "No S" is prohibitively rare. With only 2 pieces known, completing this set will not be a viable option for all but two collectors.
