CAC (The only CAC approved example as of August 2024). The 73-P is an extraordinarily tough coin; its scarcity trails 75-P and 78-CC but it is a solid #3. This lovely and original dove gray coin is a welcome addition.
The obverse chops in the field are really neat design and perfect placement to go along with a nice crusty original skin This is a very tough date, even when not chopped. Purchased at SB Hong Kong Auction and crossed over from a NGC AU holder.

This coin has a noticeable wipe in the right obverse field. At the same time, this is still an attractive coin that has very high AU Details. The Philly issues are so difficult to find I'm happy to have this coin as it is often years between chopped 74-Ps showing up in public auctions. Purchased raw at the Sacramento Coin Show.
CAC. This is a gorgeous example of the most commonly found chopped CC T$. Crusty original skin doesn't hide amazing luster and one perfectly placed chop. In combination with my 75-CC (type 1/1), purchased raw on eBay in ~2002 by previous owner. The grade is a mystery as this appears to be a mid-high AU coin. Ex-DDR.

This is the scarce and interesting type 1.5/2 with the flag pointing left but a 4th finger engraved. Two interesting chops on the reverse and some level of PL under the heavily-toned blue & brown patina; the P mint coins are very tough to find. Found raw in Hong Kong by @hkcolonialcoins. CAC. Gorgeous original patina, this crusty coin has a lovely dove gray circ cam in natural light and deep color when viewed under light. I haven't encountered the style of chops very often. Purchased from Paul @ Quantum Rarities.

This is a gorgeous coin and is fully PL however it couldn't get a grade bump to MS-60 to allow for the PL designation. Like most PL silver dollars it shows its bagginess but has only a touch of high point friction keeping it AU. The light golden rim toning is a lovely accent. Purchased in SB World Coin auction.

Nice cartwheel luster despite a dip and one interesting triton/pitchfork design chop. This coin is fairly common and is not really near near top pop but it is currently the highest variety graded type 2 reverse.

The finest known chopped 75-CC with the exceedingly scarce type 2 reverse. The Mo chop on Liberty's lap was meant to emulate the commonly seen Mexico City mint mark seen on the 8 reales of the time. Ex-Legend, Ex-WTL
The 2/2 is the host coin for some interesting and very rare varieties...but this is not one of them. Still, a slightly better date with a wide variety of well defined chops, some of them quite distinctive. Purchased raw at the Fall 2023 Long Beach show.

CAC. Within the Carson City issues, the 76, while not quite as tough as the 73 or 77 and certainly not the 78, is much more scarce than chopped 74s and 75s. This coin has a very thick, original patina but, upon viewing under light, a significant amount of luster peeks through. I generally prefer more chops but the location and design of the one chop at the knee is nice. Purchased from GFRC.

CAC. The Doubled Die Reverse, while not easy to find problem free, is not tremendously scarce, and represents roughly 15% of the total mintage. It is one of the most dramatic and noticeable of all US doubled dies. This coin has nice color to go along with numerous chops and the interesting die features. Purchased raw on eBay. Type 1/2 Micro S - neat and very scarce variety and a really nice looking coin to boot! There are heavy planchet striations on the reverse but they add to the charm of this tough coin. Purchased unattributed on Instagram. Challenge 50 Set: Slot 14-Small S
This is a not extraordinarily difficult DDR variety with doubling visible to those with high acuity eyesight, most pronounced on the 4 & 2. This very attractively toned piece is one of my most colorful trade dollars. One somewhat unusual relief chop adds to the beauty of this lightly handled coin. Challenge 50 Set: Slot 34-FS-802 DDR
This is a somewhat scarce RPD & RPM variety, with the RPD easily visible to the naked eye. Purchased at SB and cracked out of a NGC EF holder. Challenge 50 Set: Slot 35-FS-301 RPD/RPM
The 502 over-mintmark is much more scarce than its sibling 501 but also much less readily visible. The coin still has a significant amount of tar across its surfaces, likely remnants from a trip back from China a hundred years ago. Cherrypicked raw from eBay. This is a legitimately rare variety; along with the 1/2 Large S, it's likely the toughest variety in the series after the 76-S DDO. This coin has handsome, dove gray services that still retain a whiff of semi-PL surfaces (which is known for the variety) but just a bit too much "stuff" around the devices for a straight grade.
