关于此套币: As an offshoot to years of collecting US coins minted in San Francisco, I started also looking for foreign coins minted in San Francisco while at shows back around 2011. There are a bunch of obvious ones with the "S" mintmark coined during World War II for Australia, Fiji, Peru, French Indo-China, and the various Dutch possessions, as well as the extensive coinage for the U.S.-administered Philippines. After a year or so, I did some research and found an old out-of-print book, Foreign Coins Struck at United States Mints by Charles Altz (Whitman, 1965). One thing led to another, and now we have this massive set of more than 1000 coins issued by US Mints on behalf of 41 foreign countries. After a decade of collecting, helping PCGS define and develop the set composites, three consecutive best-of-registry gold awards, and more than 96% completion - and the only coins left are very rare, expensive, or in most cases, both - I'm retiring the full set to work a bit more diligently on upgrading the 389-coin type set, where I'm only two obtainable coins from completion. It's been a fun ride, and thank you to all of the people who have helped or encouraged me while building this set.

Very nice collection! If you got time, you can visit my sets in Bolivia (1/2 sol, 1 sol, 2 soles, 4 soles, 8 soles, under Luis). I can help you with many of the Venezuelan coins you are looking for, improving some and getting others you don't have.

This is a great set. I started collecting these about a year ago. Unfortunately I had parted with very nice 1897 Dominican Republic coins prior to that. I learned a lot from the notes on your coins and will refer to your registry as a great resource.

Thank You for the counting. glad to hear it is 118 reeds.
Yes in 1937 Canada struck the 10 Centavos. I have one of those. I just wondered if the U.S. Mint used the same collar as the 1937 Canada struck coins. Thanks Again

onecent1909: 118 reeds. I just counted them for you on an example I have. The Philadelphia Mint produced all of the 10c for DR in 1897, 1939, 1942, and many later years (see the set composite), but not in 1937.

I am trying to gather information on the Dominican Republic 1942 10 centavos coin. Does it have 100 reeds like the 1937 or does it have 118 reeds? Do you have any information on the U.S. minting those 10 centavos from 1942? Thank You

Finally had a chance to go through your revised set with a fine-toothed comb. Really looks good now! Remaining errata is merely in the ordering of a few items: 1962 Liberia Dollar is listed ahead of 1961 Liberia 10 and 5 Cents, Syria coins listed in ascending denomination order unlike everything else. That's it. This is a huge set and fixing it had to be a big work. Kudos!

The composite was updated today to correct errata in the last version. Much thanks to ubipetrus0gt5, BJ Searls and PCGS. Changes included:

@ubipetrus0gt5 - Thanks for your comments. This set is definitely a work in progress and hopefully will be updated as new information is discovered. The set, as originally published by PCGS, had only about 800 coins, with numerous omissions and spurious listings... I helped clean it up in 2016, but knew there were still issues, like the missing 1943-P/Acorn Netherlands issues... I have examples of those raw, and figured I'd get the composite updated when/if I find a certified example. Varieties are excluded per PCGS set rules for this type of set, so no 1983 Panama cent varieties, nor 1951 Costa Rica 5c nor Netherlands 1944-P/Acorn Gulden varieties, for example. Disputed issues were generally omitted also - e.g., Krause lists 1921 (S) French Indo-China 1c, but Altz "Foreign Coins Struck at US Mints" states that all 1c were dated 1920. Good info on the late Philippines issues... do you have primary evidence? It is very challenging to match mintages between Krause and the US mint reports, given the fiscal year reporting of the latter. Are you a member of the PCGS forums? I'm also mvs7 there... would love to PM about the set if you have the inclination to do so. Regards, Michael

Awesome set; awesome collection. But having studied this series for quite some time I must note some errata in the listings: 1969 Canada 10 Cent is not a regular issue but only a trial strike, like listing a Philippines 1903-S 50 Centavo, of which only 2 are known. 1916 Cuba 20 Pesos is a regular issue though only 10 proofs were struck (See Krause). 1921-S French Indo-China 1 Centime exists; 1,710,000 were struck (See Krause). 1943 Netherlands 10 and 25 Cents (P and Acorn) exist (see Krause).1935 Nicaragua 10 Cent exists; 250,000 struck (see Krause). 1983 Panama 1 Cent has two varieties, 5,000,000 copper struck at West Point, the balance zinc struck at both Philadelphia and West Point. 1970 Philippines 1 Sentimo is spurious listing; no such coin known to collectors; the 130,000,000 struck in 1970 were dated 1969. 1975 Philippines all denominations were not struck in US at all but 1 and 5 Sentimo all struck in England, 10 Sentimo through Piso all struck in Germany. All Philippine coins struck in 1975 were per the 1967-1974 alloy/size/weight standards (See "Domestic and Foreign Coins Manufactured by Mints of the United States 1793-1980). 1975 Philippines 50 Sentimos is spurious listing; no such coin known to collectors; the 5,014,000 struck in 1975 were all dated 1974. So 1 Piso and 25 Sentimo coins pictured from this collection for 1975 were struck in Germany and do not belong here.

Thank you! I didn't know that about the spelling on the Belgian Congo piece... nice tidbit.

日期: 1/12/2018 9:32 下午 张贴人: mvs7

Really great set. Probably mentioned somewhere else, but the Belgian Congo piece has a spelling error - the Flemish version BELGISH should be BELGISCH
