Edward I (1272-1307) hammered silver penny. Long cross variety, New coinage beginning 1279. Spink #1393, plate 3g. The most distinctive changes for the new coinage are a better facial image on the obverse, and only a single bar cross rather than double. Highly circulated and clipped for the silver, these pennies were the workhorse of early England. Finding any that can meet the precise standards of PCGS grading is a true rarity, and in my estimation, undervalued. A beautiful blue-grey even toning to both sides adorns this gem.
