Sommer Islands Twopence are the smallest of four denominations in this series. In terms of total numbers of known specimens, the Twopence are probably second rarest (after the Threepence). However, in terms of value, the Shillings usually bring more because of their larger size.
No "nice" Sommer Islands Twopence exists, at least not in terms of what one might expect from a regular issue United States coins. All examples show corrosion of varying degrees; most have been found by treasure hunters using metal detectors. At least two show splits in the planchet where the metal literally spread apart as the coin was being struck. At least one shows a small chunk broken out of the edge. The finest examples rate Very Fine and most are much worse.
Two varieties comprise the entire mintage: 1) Large Star below the Hog and 2) Small Star below the Hog. Both varieties appear to be of equal rarity.
