This rare variety has a halo (actually, a series of rays of glory known as a "nimbus" or a "radiant halo") surrounding the head of St. Patrick (he's the one standing with the double cross).  Perhaps less than a dozen of these are known, the best being a PCGS VF35 example that sold for $21,850 in a 2012 Heritage auction.  Remarkably, the John J. Ford, Jr. collection lacked even a single example.  Garrett had one (in silver!) as did Ted Craige, John Roper, Richard Picker, and the Norweb family (they had three!).  The rarity of this variety may be attributed to a large die break that turns into a bulged area of metal at the S of QVIESCAT.
