1794 C4a Liberty Cap half cent, Small Edge Letters, R3. This is the front-line example for the Furnace Run PCGS Registry Set of US half cents from 1793 to 1857 by Cohen Variety. This coin has been authenticated and graded by PCGS as VF20. This is a very sharp, very attractive example with dark chocolate brown glossy surfaces. No real marks to speak of, and the only "defect" is that the obverse is struck unevenly causing the left side to be strong and the right side to be weaker. The coin is much more even on the reverse, with just a hint of weakness at lower right. The eye appeal is wonderful and the coin is lighter in person than in my photos. Late die state M4.0 with reverse crack M to left point and berry. A well-known example that has been in recorded in the Noyes Numistudy condition census as #98390 and EAC VF20. I agree with Noyes and PCGS as VF20 and certainly Average PLUS. Ex-CVM in Chicago to Shawn A. Yancey on 04/29/11 as my #9281; Furnace Run Collection.
