1794 C4b Liberty Cap half cent, Large Edge Letters, R7. This is the front-line example for the Furnace Run PCGS Registry Set of US half cents from 1793 to 1857 by Cohen Variety. This coin has been authenticated and graded by PCGS as VG10, and it was not sent to CAC due to time constraints. One of the famous "B-girls" and one of the rarest coins in this collection. This coin is a well-known example that is recorded as coin #73664 by Bill Noyes in his Numistudy census as VG8, and recorded by Mike Spurlock as tied for CC5 in his census. This is also a well-pedigreed example, and it's last public sale was in the 06/13/18 Goldberg auction, where Bob Grellman described it as: "1794 C-4b R7 Large Edge Letters PCGS graded VG10. PCGS graded VG-10. Glossy light to medium brown blending to light chocolate brown on the devices. The surfaces are smooth and the only notable marks are a small splash of reddish chocolate toning under the 94, a small rim nick at the end of the pole, and a shallow low spot (incomplete planchet) at the top of EN in CENT. The date and legends are strong except for weakness at E in CENT thanks to the low spot in the planchet. The Large Edge Letters are complete and clear. EDS, Manley state 1.0, without any die clashmarks on the obverse. The reverse is rotated 15 degrees CCW. A nice example of a very important variety that is missing from most advanced collections, tied for CC#5 in the Mike Spurlock census. Noyes photo #73664. Weight 100.1 grains. Our grade is VG8+, very close to the VG10 grade assigned by PCGS. The attribution and Green Tree Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label."
