1794 C6a Liberty Cap half cent, Small Edge Letters, R4+. This is the front-line example for the Furnace Run PCGS Registry Set of US half cents from 1793 to 1857 by Cohen Variety. This coin has been authenticated and graded by PCGS as G4, and it was not sent to CAC due to time constraints. This is a dark chocolate brown example of a tough R5- variety. The details are G5 on each side but there are some tiny contact marks that reduce this to G4 or close to it. The last time this coin traded publicly was the Stacks auction of 10/30/18, where it was described as: "Even deep brown patina to both sides, the surfaces are quite rough overall with numerous tiny marks scattered about. There are few sizeable distractions, however, the most significant of which are evident on Liberty's neck, at the digit 4 in the date, and near the left reverse border. Isolated peripheral areas are devoid of denticulation, but all devices are discernible, and most are boldly outlined. The Small Edge Letters is the more plentiful variant of this die marriage, but the 1794 C-6 is a scarce variety in an absolute sense with examples always in demand among specialists."
