Sheldon 24 was once known as the "Scarred Head" variety because of "...an approximately ear-shaped depression ("scar") in the hair below the ear at the back of the neck" (Dr. Sheldon).  Today, this variety is popularly known as the "Apple Cheek" variety, a name first suggested by Dr. Sheldon's father because of Liberty's exceptially rounded, full cheeks.

At least six Mint State examples are known of this variety, the best being the PCGS MS67RB from the Sheldon-Naftzger-Jung collections.  This superb Gem sold for $352,500 in 2014.  A close runner-up is the Eliasberg PCGS MS66+BN.
