Four die varieties comprise the entire mintage of 1794 Half Dimes, of which the LM-2 is third rarest.  In 1998, authors Logan and McCloskey wrote that this variety is "A scarce die marriage that is hard to locate in mint state."  In the intervening years, we have identified approximately a dozen Mint State examples ranging from a low of NGC MS60 to a high of NGC SP66.  In looking at many of these Uncirculated examples, we note weakness in the details on the upper section of the eagle's right wing (viewer's left) and in the lower hair curls on the obverse (two ares that oppose each other in the dies).  The stars are inherently spindly, so they usually strike up nicely.  Adjustment marks are rarely seen on this variety and the overall appearance of coins struck from these dies is generally good.
