1795 C2b Liberty Cap half cent, Plain Edge Thin Planchet, R6. This is the front-line example for the Furnace Run PCGS Registry Set of US half cents from 1793 to 1857 by Cohen Variety. This coin has been authenticated and graded by PCGS as VG Details, Damage. Despite that libel, this is an outstanding example of this rarity! In fact, this is the Carvin Goodridge example, which was sold by Goldberg's on 09/02/12 lot 39 where it was described as: "1795 C-2b R6+ Punctuated Date with Thin Plain Edge Planchet VG7. Very attractive glossy light to medium chocolate brown. Smooth and flawless except for a planchet chip in the center of the reverse and a relatively minor scratch from the right side of the second S in STATES down to the leaf stem below. The obverse is absolutely choice. The date is strong and the legends are clear. LDS, Manley state 3.0. A premium example of this rare variety in spite of the obvious flaw. Weight 81.5 grains." This coin sold for $7475 in that auction, and I agree with the VG7 assessment and certainly still consider this a "PLUS" coin.
