1795 C3 Liberty Cap half cent, Plain Edge Punctuated Date, Thin Planchet 81.6gns, R5+. This is the front-line example for the Furnace Run PCGS Registry Set of US half cents from 1793 to 1857 by Cohen Variety. This coin has been authenticated and graded by PCGS as VG8, and CAC-certified as CHOICE for the assigned grade. To me this is a WOW coin! Great color, smooth surfaces, incredible eye appeal, and oh yeah it's an R5+! I think the photos speak for themselves here, but I can add that this is M2.0 with HALF CENT mostly gone due to die state, not due to wear. My grade EAC VG7 and CHOICE! Ex-Tom Reynolds 02/08/20; Shawn A. Yancey #12091; Furnace Run Collection.

The 1795 Cohen 3 variety is one of the "Punctuated Date" varieties, but on a thin, plain edge planchet.  It is a very scarce variety that is rarely found in grades above Fine condition.  Certainly, no Mint State examples are known.  Breen lists the Anderson-DuPont example as the first coin in his Condition Census, tied at "About Extremely Fine" with the Missouri Cabinet coin that sold in early 2014 as a PCGS AU50.  The next best coin drops down to the Very Fine level.

Early versions of this variety are struck well, with most of HALF CENT visible on the reverse.  Later, the reverse die buckled and HALF CENT began to disappear until only the H and the C remain visible.
