This is only the third rarest date of this type, but it is unquestionably the most popular and in great demand. Since there are 16 stars on the reverse and the 16th state (Tennessee) was not admitted to the Union until June 1, 1796, it is evident that the 1795 Heraldic Eagle was not struck until at least 1797 and possibly even later. Its exact mintage figure is therefore unknown and is included in the figures for 1797 or 1798, most likely the latter.
Very rare and popular in any condition, this coin is probably a high R-5 with approximately 35-40 specimens known. Most are quite well preserved, EF or better, and a few fairly choice uncs exist.
