1797 C2 Liberty Cap half cent, Plain Edge with Centered Head, R3. This is the front-line example for the Furnace Run PCGS Registry Set of US half cents from 1793 to 1857 by Cohen Variety. This coin has been authenticated and graded by PCGS as VF35, and CAC-certified as CHOICE for the assigned grade. Another truly exceptional example, crossed over from an NGC EF40 holder. I think PCGS called this a VF35 instead of EF40 because of the die state, since this one shows major weakness at top right obverse and bottom left reverse, completely as-struck. Gorgeous and completely original medium glossy brown surfaces with almost no signs of contact. Just a great looking coin. My EAC grade is VF30+ and PLUS; the NGC EF40 label remains with the coin. Ex-Ebay 2015; Furnace Run Collection.
