The 1799 BD-7 $10 gold piece is a common variety and, according to Dannreuther, it is "...one of the most available of all early eagles."  This statement is confirmed by the frequent appearance of this variety at auction.  As might be expected, the surviving population includes a number of high grade examples.  In the PCGS CoinFacts Condition Census, we've listed eight examples ranging from MS62 to MS64+.  The best Harry Bass example, illustrated in the Bass-Dannreuther reference (p. 502) may be even better!

On this variety, the obverse is found perfect, then later develops rim crumbling at 10:00 o'clock and from 6:30 to 7:30, plus a crack from the forecurl up through the E of LIBERTY to the rim.
