1804 C9 Draped Bust half cent, Crosslet 4 With Stems, R2. This is the front-line example for the Furnace Run PCGS Registry Set of US half cents from 1793 to 1857 by Cohen Variety. This coin has been authenticated and graded by PCGS as AU55, and CAC-certified as CHOICE for the assigned grade. PHENOMENAL COLOR! My photos are coming out way too dark for some reason, and in hand this one has the gorgeous medium glossy peanut butter brown color that we all prefer yet seldom find. The surfaces are gorgeous and nearly free of nicks, even with a strong glass. There a are couple of VERY fine hairlines in the right obverse field that are not visible head-on, but can be seen under magnification if you rotate under a light. This is being really picky, though. Additionally, this is an early die state coin M1.0 with clear but faint crack through IBER, but no crack through tops of Y. Really a wonderful example for the grade and price. Ex-Shawn A. The 1804 C-9 Half Cent is one of five die varieties that make up the Crosslet 4, Stems major variety. Early die states have an unbroken obverse; in later states, a break forms over the RTY of LIBERTY, eventually ending in a full cud in that area.  Mint State examples are known, but none have been certified yet by PCGS.  This is a common variety which is best obtained from specialists in early American copper coins, who generally have a nice inventory of U.S. Half Cents.
