1804 C1 Draped Bust half cent, Crosslet 4 with Stems, R3. This is the front-line example for the Furnace Run PCGS Registry Set of US half cents from 1793 to 1857 by Cohen Variety. This coin has been authenticated and graded by PCGS as EF45, and it is a rich dark chocolate brown example with glossy surfaces and nice eye appeal. The obverse shows several but minor signs of circulation, including a tiny nick on the cheek, a stronger but well hidden scuff in the lower hair, and a series of very fine scratches beneath the lowest curls. All of these are minor and require a strong glass to see clearly. The reverse is nearly mark-free yet does show some cool die state cracks from M2.0 including an interesting crack at F in HALF that forks off to the right. This die state also features weak drapery at the bust on the obverse. Overall a very attractive coin for the die variety, and not far from the expanded condition census for 1804 C1. Ex-CVM; Shawn A. Yancey #12089; Furnace Run Collection.
