1805 C1 Draped Bust half cent, Small 5 With NO Stems, R2. This is the front-line example for the Furnace Run PCGS Registry Set of US half cents from 1793 to 1857 by Cohen Variety. This coin has been authenticated and graded by PCGS as MS63BN, and it was not sent to CAC due to time constraints. This is one of the top ten coins graded at PCGS, with two MS65, two MS64, and about a half-dozen MS63 including this coin. This coin's last public appearance was the Goldberg's auction of 02/19/18, where it was described by Bob Grellman as: "1805 C-1 R2- Repunched 5 PCGS graded MS63 Brown. Lustrous medium steel brown and chocolate with frosty tan faded down from mint color in protected areas, particularly on the reverse. The only mark is an arc of darker olive brown toning from the L in LIBERTY through the curls to the lowest curl left of the date. Nicely struck E-MDS, Manley state 1.0 late. A rim cud break involves 4 dentils right of the fraction and the reverse is rotated 20 degrees clockwise. The repunching at the top of the 5 is sharp. Our grade is MS60. The attribution and Green Tree Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label." The PCGS Price Guide says $5500 but I am pricing this one "cheap" based on it's last APR.
