The 1806/5 O-102 Half Dollar is a relatively common variety, but it is popular with collectors because of the overdate. This is one of two different obverse dies that were overdated by punching a 6 over the 5 of the date. On this variety, the overdate is less evident than it is on the other, but it is clear on high grade examples. Unfortunately, high grade examples are difficult to locate. The best example, and the only Mint State example to our knowledge, is a single PCGS MS63. Even AU examples are very difficult to locate. On most examples (if not all), the stars are indistinct, as is the tip of the bust. On the reverse, the clouds and stars at upper right are usually flat, as this area is opposite the tip of the bust, making it difficult for the metal to flow into all the recessed areas of the die.
