1809 C3 Classic Head half cent, Normal Date, R3. This is the front-line example for the Furnace Run PCGS Registry Set of US half cents from 1793 to 1857 by Cohen Variety. This coin has been authenticated and graded by PCGS as MS62BN, and this example has gorgeous golden brown luster overflowing from both sides. Really nice color, surfaces, and eye appeal. The only defect is a tiny rim bump above the D in UNITED on the reverse. That tiny bump can be seen in my photo, BUT it does NOT show clearly in hand. Exceptional color and eye appeal. M1.0 with obverse denticles strong except for above the head; reverse rotated slightly. This example has sold three times over the past 15 years at Heritage: 05/04/05 lot 5061 at $1035; 11/02/05 lot 69 at $758; and 02/01/09 lot 7118 at $805.
