1828 C2 Classic Head half cent, 12 Stars Obverse, R1. This is the front-line example for the Furnace Run PCGS Registry Set of US half cents from 1793 to 1857 by Cohen Variety. This coin has been authenticated and graded by PCGS as AU58, and CAC-certified as CHOICE for the assigned grade! Glossy medium chestnut brown with only tiny signs of contact visible with a glass, including some little nicks on the neck and bust area. Mint luster on both sides with a streak of carbon on the lower right reverse. Very nice eye appeal and sort of a sweet-spot in the grade/price/quality spectrum. This is the 12-stars Obverse Redbook variety, which does bring a premium over the two 13-star varieties. Appears to be M2.0 with light clash marks reverse; minor strike doubling; interrupted cracks UNIT plain. Purchased from Greg Hannigan in 2011 as NGC MS61BN, and the NGC label remains with the coin; Furnace Run collection.
