1835 C2 Classic Head half cent, R1. This is the front-line example for the Furnace Run PCGS Registry Set of US half cents from 1793 to 1857 by Cohen Variety. This coin has been authenticated and graded by PCGS as MS63BN, and CAC-certified as CHOICE for the assigned grade! Extremely lustrous medium golden brown with some traces of steel blue on the obverse and some darker maroon on the reverse. That combination of colors creates wonderful eye appeal, and luster abounds. A few very light scuffs on the cheek and neck keep this in the MS63BN holder instead of MS64BN or higher, but the eye appeal is wonderful and the CAC-sticker is well-deserved. M2.0 with plain clash mark at bust above 35, but no arcing die crack between D-S on reverse. The crack through the tops of ERICA is also very bold. Purchased on Ebay in 2012; Furnace Run collection.

The 1835 Cohen 2 Half Cent is a very common variety and one of two varieties that comprise all of the 1835 Half Cents. The main difference between the two varieties is in the spacing of the ST of STATES. On Cohen 1, ST is spaced farther apart than on Cohen 2, but similar to that of the other letters of STATES. On Cohen 2, ST is spaced closer, much more so than any of the other letters of STATES. The best way to tell the difference between the two varieties is to compare images of both.
