1835 C1 Classic Head half cent, R1. This is the front-line example for the Furnace Run PCGS Registry Set of US half cents from 1793 to 1857 by Cohen Variety. This coin has been authenticated and graded by PCGS as MS65BN, and CAC-certified as CHOICE for the assigned grade! An excellent mixture of browns, mostly medium brown but with some pretty underlying golden brown showing through on the obverse. Very few signs of contact, and some of what look like micro-nicks are actually light clash marks. A premium example with good eye appeal. Well-struck early die state, M1.0 with single clash marks with "dagger" at throat, and no clash marks outside wreath on reverse. Purchased on Ebay in 2010; Furnace Run collection.

The 1835 Cohen 1 Half Cent is a very common variety and one of two varieties that comprise all of the 1835 Half Cents. The main difference between the two varieties is in the spacing of the ST of STATES. On Cohen 1, ST is spaced farther apart than on Cohen 2, but similar to that of the other letters of STATES. On Cohen 2, ST is spaced closer, much more so than any of the other letters of STATES. The best way to tell the difference between the two varieties is to compare images of both.
