O.106a, R3 (die state: die break from rim through center arrow point to top arrowhead). This variety is the only one in the lettered edge series with a raised-edge reverse (flat wire) and beaded segments instead of customary denticles. This reverse was used for the notable crushed lettered edge proofs which are believed to have been struck at the second Mint. The O.106 followed and researchers believe it too was struck on steam press with a closed collar during the Mint's transitional period.
