The 1837 is really a very scarce and underrated date. It is more rare in all grades than the 1834 Plain 4, 1835, 1836, or 1838 and is much rarer in choice condition than any of those four dates. In AU and Unc, it has actually appeared at auction less often than the 1838-D, although, in my experience, the 1838-D is more rare in those grades.PCGS #
