One of the 1838 No Drapery, Small Stars Dimes comes with a Doubled Die Reverse (Fortin 101 and Fortin 101a, aka FS-801). Fortin 101 is an early die state with no die cracks on the obverse or reverse. The doubling appears on most of UNITED STATES and portions of the left side of the wreath, but can be seen most clearly at the lower left of the O of ONE and the D of DIME. At some point the dies cracked, yielding the Fortin 101a variety. On Fortin 101a, the obverse die cracked in an arc through the date, then through the first six stars. Another crack connects Liberty's head, the eighth star, and the cap. On the reverse, a thin crack runs across the tops of the lettering from the final S in STATES to the E of AMERICA. Both the FS-101 and FS-101a are fairly common, though they can be tough to find in Mint State.
