Only two examples are known of this unusual transitional pattern, though a third is rumored to exist. The obverse is of the Seated Liberty design, but with raised LIBERTY on the shield instead of the usual incused lettering. The reverse is the regular die of 1837.
The best example is the PCGS PR63 which has a strong pedigree going all the way back to the Mickely collection in the late 1800's. Today, it is owned by the mega-collector, Bob Simpson. The second example is the PCGS PR62, ex-Virgil Brand and King Farouk. A possible third example was illustrated in the April 1914 issue of The Numismatist, page 176, where the story explains how the coin had been exhibited by H.O. Granberg at the American Numismatic Society in early 1914.
