Victoria, proof pattern gold sovereign, 1838, Young Head left, date below between two small roses (intended to balance the surrounding legend), rev. crowned long shield with square top, laurel branches and legend surrounding, floral emblem of rose, thistle and shamrock at bottom, plain edge (WR.299: R5), certified and graded by NGC as Proof 63 Cameo, eye-pleasing light gold toning, hairlines most evident in fields-a choice example of this very rare early pattern of Victoria
