CAC 1853 Three Cent Silver, MS67 One of the Finest Certified Survivors 1853 3CS MS67 PCGS Secure. CAC. This original Type One Superb Gem is essentially unmarked and displays a bold strike on the design features. Mottled blue and russet patina adheres mainly to the peripheral areas. Faint clash marks from the shield are apparent within the bars of the denomination. Among the finest survivors from this early issue in the series. Population: 14 in 67 (3 in 67+), 0 finer. The 1853 Three-Cents Silver has the second highest mintage of the series, thus collectors will have no difficulty in locating a nice example.  Even Mint State examples are common, with the largest population of coins clustering at the MS-63 and MS-64 grades.  Gems are slightly scarcer, but Superb examples become very rare (the December 2011 Population Report shows five MS-67s, and none finer). 

High grade examples of this date show a rich, frosty luster.  To my knowledge, no examples exist without some weakness on either some of the stars, the shield, or the outer border.
