VICTORIA 1853 ‘GOTHIC HEAD’ FLORIN With light russet, bronze peripheral toning highlighted with burnt orange and garnet accents. Listed in SPINK as S3891 and OLD ESC 808 - Rarity R(2). SCBC as 2826 (The English Silver Coinage since 1649: M. Bull) Listed as B2 – Includes Victoria d:g: brit: reg: f:d: - without stop (.) after date. Obverse depicts date in Gothic numerals (mddcccliii) and WW below the bust (the engraver William Wyon’s initials), with 48 border trefoils and the reverse showing crowned cruciform shields bearing three lions passant for England, the lion rampant for Scotland and harp for Ireland. The angles exhibit a rose, thistle, rose and a shamrock with a floriated cross in the centre within a tressured circular panel engraved by William Dyce.
