A.W. Escherich Pop 1/0 This is a "storecard" which indeed advertised Escherich's business as an engraver. Not so much a "sales piece," as it is a copper token meant to circulate alongside (or in place of) American cents that had all but disappeared by 1863. So when a merchant struck these tokens, it was a form of advertising. When someone would receive them in change, they would be introduced to the vendor as if someone had handed them their business card.
