EEPS. CAC. PDS: (12: 4,4,4). Ultra rare S-4a. 4* variety rating in IHC expert Rick Snow’s definitive guide. Described as a very rare & popular doubled die. Pronounced doubling on LIBERTY. There is obvious doubling on the feathers as well, along with clashing between the feathers. The “4” in the date is evidently repunched. The reverse shows strong clashing & minor die rotation. This example has lots of luster & is one of the finest known. Pop 2/0 in BN (there are only 4 other MS examples). In RB, there are only 4 MS examples & none in RD. Total MS pop in all colors is only 10 making the 1864 No L S-4 an extreme rarity.
