Judd-358 is an important transitional pattern from 1864.  The obverse is an 1864-L die, the same one used to strike the "original" 1864 Proofs in Bronze, but Judd-358 was struck in Copper-Nickel.  Judd-358 is extremely rare, with only three examples known to experts in the field.  In the past, this variety has been misidentified as a regular 1864 Copper-Nickel Cent, so it is possible, though unlikely, that additional examples exist.  Rick Snow believes that Judd-358 was struck after the 1864-L Bronze Proofs, indicating that this variety may have been struck as a special treat for collectors.
