The mintages of Half Dimes issued by the Philadelphia Mint during the 1860's ranged from a low of 8,000 (in 1867) to a high of 3,360,000 (in 1861). At 208,000 coins, the 1869 Half Dime has the third largest mintage of the period, but it is way below the mintages of the 1861 and 1862 Half Dimes. As far as collectibility goes, this date is not rare by any means, with ample quantities of circulated examples to satisfy collector demand. In Mint State, the 1869 Half Dime is readily available in a range of grades from MS62 to MS65. Over a dozen examples are known in grades above MS65, led by a single PCGS MS68. The strike quality of this date is generally good, but many examples show weakness in the denticles on the right side of the reverse.
