Judd 857 is a copper version of an 1870 "Standard Silver" 10 Cents Pattern.  According to Saul Teichmen at www.uspatterns.com, "These were sold in sets [of nine coins] with the other designs and denominations for $15."  The obverse features a bust of Liberty facing right wearing a cap emblazoned with oversized stars.  A ribbin trails from her cap behind her head and around her shoulder.  The reverse is a simple design of a wreath, the denomination "10 CENTS: in the center, the date below, and the legend "STANDARD SILVER" above the wreath.  This was to be a new series of nine coins, with uniform (standard) designs to replace those already in clrculation.  Clearly, the designs were never adopted.

We have no way of knowing how many sets were struck, but very few examples survive today.  We know of at least six demonstrably different Judd 857's in a range of colors and quality.
