EEPS. 1870 RD’s @ 66 are prohibitively rare. The overall pop (both Bold & Shallow N) show only 3 higher @ 66+. This is the highest graded Shallow N in the pop. 1870 was a transition year from the Bold to Shallow N rev. This coin is an absolutely beautiful, eye appealing, highly lustrous full blown RD. While it’s @ the “top of the heap”, I won’t call it unique or even the best despite its lofty status. I believe 2 of the 3 66+ RD’s are unattributed Shallow N’s (Red Copper & Wright). Still, a FABULOUS piece & rare to the extreme!
