The MS 68 specimen riveted the attention of each grader. The condition rarity of the date added to the piece's incredulity. "Where the ___ did this coin come from?!" was heard more than once.Ron Guth
The 1871 Quarter Dollar was the first date in the series to exceed 100,000 coins since the Civil War. Even so, it still commands a premium over the mega-mintage dates such as 1876 and 1877. Uncirculated examples are rather scarce and appear mostly in MS63 and MS64. There is one standout, a single PCGS MS68, that represents one of the finest examples of any Liberty Seated Quarter.
This date comes well struck, with luster ranging from hard and chrome-like to frosty, snowy white.
