The 1872 Dime had the largest mintage since 1857.  Not only did the mintage exceed one million coins for the first time since the Civil War, but the Mint cranked out almost 2.4 million Dimes in 1872.  Despite this huge number, the population of the 1872 Dime mimics dates with much lower mintages, thus the large mintage did not necessarily correspond with a higher survival rate.  Nonetheless, this is a common date and one which can be found in Mint State with relative ease.  The PCGS CoinFacts Condition Census starts at MS65 and goes up to PCGS MS67+ (the colorful example illustrated above).

The more interesting varieties among 1872 Dimes include a Doubled Die Obverse, two Misplaced Dates, and a Doubled Die Reverse.
